The 43-year-old Italian spent one season in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk, winning the Ukrainian Premier League and Super Cup.
De Zerbi has also been linked with the vacant Tottenham job, but it now appears that Marseille are leading the race for his signature.
According to reports in Italy and France, De Zerbi has reached an informal agreement with Marseille and is expected to sign a contract in the coming days.
